As the end of the year (and decade!) is getting closer, my partner in crime Valentí Acconcia and I decided to jump on the bandwagon of doing a ‘top 10’ list. And seeing the great year that Spanish companies have had on equity crowdfunding, the target was easy… the top 10 have raised nearly 20m€ from over 11,000 investors!
We are both big believers in turning your users into investors. As I have discussed in previous articles (for example in The benefits of Equity Crowdfunding), it has the power of increasing all of the metrics that matter for a B2C brand. So what a great opportunity to get both investment and increase the engagement of your customers!
That’s why we decided that, rather than ordering the list in terms of investment, we would do the list of biggest equity crowdfunding rounds in Spain by number of investors.
We compiled the data by asking all of the platforms operating with Spanish businesses to share their data with us.
As some of these platforms are Spanish based, we have converted the amounts to Euros. Thanks to all of the platforms for their input in compiling this list and especial thanks to my esteemed collaborator Valentí Acconcia, who’s published a similar blog post in his website (in Spanish) and a video in his YouTube channel featuring yours truly (also in Spanish). If you fancy watching us talking in hyper-speed Spanish, here we are:

Sector: B2C fashion
Link to the Cocoro campaign.
The highlight of this campaign is the splendid work before launch, that allowed a great success despite being public live during August. If you want more details of this round, which I had the immense pleasure to consult for, I wrote an article about it.
Number of investors: 438
Amount raised: 1,249,868 €
Sector: B2C food & drinks

It’s not a coincidence that we have a beer brand in our top 10. We can trace the origins of Equity Crowdfunding as we know it to the early Brewdog campaigns!

Amount raised: 1,028,000 €
Sector: IT & Telecommunications
Link to the GeoDB campaign.
Being a rebel against the current status quo has always worked very well in Equity Crowdfunding. If on top of that you add a hot topic like data privacy, you have a winner!
Number of investors: 713
Amount raised: 635,000 €
Link to the Nanusens campaign.
In this second run, the Barcelona based chip company benefitted from both their UK subsidiary to offer EIS as well as their community of investors from their first round.

Life sciences is one of the hottest sectors for investment and this campaign shows us they can do very well in a generalist platform such as Crowdcube.
3. ID Finance
Number of investors: 1,161
Amount raised: 5,700,000 €
Link to the ID Finance campaign.
The biggest round in this list in terms of money raised, it shows that FinTech is a hot sector and that there’s a lot of appetite from investors to revolutionise the banking system.
Number of investors: 1,215
Amount raised: 2,500,019 €
Link to the Muroexe campaign.
A brand with lots of traction in Spain that capitalised on the loyalty of their users to gain momentum and entice other investors in the platform.
Number of investors: 4,622
Amount raised: 3,300,000 €
Link to the Bnext campaign.
Following the example of record-breaking campaigns such as those of Monzo, Revolut, Chip and Curve, Bnext relied on their growing base of users to fund their round, with the hope that they become rabid fans and brand ambassadors after participating in an equity round. The metrics from their UK based peers would suggest this is going to be the case!
